چکیده

Porcine reproductive and respiratory disease (PRRS) is an economically important disease around the globe; it has been estimated to cost the swine industry in USA approximately 560 million US dollars annually. It is well established that PRRS is caused by an enveloped, single-stranded positive-sense RNA virus known as porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). The inability to successfully control PRRS across farms via traditional methods (e.g. vaccine and animal flow) has led to a growing interest in area-based eradication. Important to such an initiative is information on PRRSV transmission within and between herds and intervention strategies to prevent its spread. This paper will review the current literature on selected areas of PRRS known to be important to the topic of pathogen elimination, including etiology, clinical manifestations, direct and indirect routes of transmission, as well as discuss measures for disease control, prevention and eradication.

Complete Genome Sequence of European Genotype Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus Strain LNEU12 in Northern China

We report the complete genome sequence of a European genotype porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus isolated from swine in northern China in 2012. Genome alignment revealed that the virus (LNEU12) strain shares 90.1% nucleotide identity with the European prototype Lelystad virus. Here, we announce the complete genome sequence of LNEU12.

Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus, Thailand, 2010–2011

Characterization of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) isolates from pigs in Thailand showed 30-aa discontinuous deletions in nonstructural protein 2, identical to sequences for highly pathogenic PRRSV. The novel virus is genetically related to PRRSV from China and may have spread to Thailand through illegal transport of infectious animals from bordering countries.

Recombination in Vaccine and Circulating Strains of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Viruses

Em2007, a porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) variant with a unique 68 aa deletion in Nsp2, was recently isolated in China. Phylogenetic and molecular evolutionary analyses indicated that Em2007 is a natural recombinant between a vaccine strain of PRRSV and circulating virus. We also tested its pathogenicity in piglets.

Complete Genome Sequence of a Novel Deletion Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus Strain

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus HZ-31 strain is different from any other previously sequenced porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus strains. It contains a 59-amino acid (aa) discontinuous deletion in aa 467 to 474, aa 498 to 519, and aa 533 to 561 of nsp2. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of this novel Chinese virulent PRRSV variant.

Complete Genome Sequence of a Mosaic NADC30-Like Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus in China

Here, we report the complete genome of an NADC30-like porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) strain, HNhx, which was isolated from Henan Province, China, in 2016 and was characterized by recombination with JXA1 strain (an epidemic highly pathogenic PRRSV strain in China) in Nsp4 to Nsp9.

Evaluation of an industry-based sanitation protocol for full-size transport vehicles contaminated with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus

Objective: To test a protocol for sanitation of full-size commercial transport vehicles contaminated with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), utilizing conditions found on commercial swine production units. Conditions included use of cold water for washing (21 ̊C), application of a commercial disinfectant via a low-pressure foamer, and rapid completion of ≤ 2 hours.
